New affiliate needing help on where to begin

Hey guys
I am interested in becoming a adult webcam affiliate…
Having witnessed a guy at the gym become increasingly wealthy over the last few years, saying he is an affiliate for webcam sites. I would like to give it a go and see if it something I can start doing, just as a hobby, then side hustle with a view to replacing my current employment.
Unfortunately I have no clue where to begin, when I ask the guy how to go about it, he is pretty vague and evasive when it comes to divulging how to do it, he just told me to look up online affiliate marketing and my search landed me at this forum.
I do understand what an affiliate is and what being an affiliate entails, as so far as I know I need to register as an affiliate for a company, I have seen a few posts here already on that, which I am yet to do.
I am a complete newbie, this being my very first site I have joined and thing to post on the subject.
